Important figures in cybersecurity can come from all sorts of different backgrounds, leading to a truly diverse environment. Even people who once were in jail for crimes can still make it big and successful if they try hard enough and succeed in being well off. These people can have many different types of jobs too, yet they are still considered to be part of one workspace as a whole.

From Brian Krebs' journaling information to Kevin Mitnick's hacking adventures as a youth, these people have lived amazing lives and still are a large influence on the industry today. They have been working for years in their respective fields, yet still at are top of their game and routinely share enlightening stories on how they have reached the top of their fields.

What many people fail to realize is that not only can people be figures, but nations can as well, and Russia is one of our worst enemies on the cyber front. They are constantly messing with other nations and stealing different types of data and attempting to bring down the overall security of the nation.

Kevin Mitnick

Kevin Mitnick was a social engineer/hacker who was able to outrun the law for 2 and a half years. During that time he would hack into many companies, obtaining their information and then selling to keep himself fed and clothed. He also had multiple phones to throw off the police. Now, he is a cybersecurity professional that heads a firm to help companies protect themselves.

Brian Krebs

Brian Krebs is a cybersecurity journalist that has published hundreds of stories over the years about different security mishaps and CEOs that are not performing their duties to the best of their abilities. He has also published several stories on how the hackers have achieved these amazing feats of hacking and what information exactly was stolen. He now runs a website called KrebsonSecurity.com.

Russia

Russia has been a thorn in many countries' sides for a long time now with its cybersecurity exploits. They seek to take over other nations and have been advancing their knowledge of cyber attacks for decades to help them win their wars against other nations. Just recently, during the Russia-Ukraine war, we saw them use a cyber attack to turn off power for a large section of Ukraine.
